Quarter final loss in tied game |

Repton sadly lost their quarter final clash against the old enemy in a tense game at Repton which ended with the scores level. Repton were inserted in conditions ideal for seam and swing and were looking at defeat after a top order collapse saw the score at 50-4. But a good partnership from two debutants Siddique (82) and Cosford (30) raised the spirits of the Pilgrims supporters. But in the end 174-8 seemed to be well short of a par score. and at 90-3 with twenty overs left it seemed all over. But good bowling, catching and field placements made run scoring difficult and it finally came down to 6 required off the last over with 4 wickets in hand. Luke Lacey to bowl: 1, wkt, 1, 2, 1, 1 meant the Malvern went through on the less wickets lost rule.
A sad end perhaps but some good talent has been uncovered this season and considering only 4 of the team that played in the final last year were performing yesterday the future looks bright in the competition.
What the club needs however is more non Cricketer Cup cricket, perhaps two games on Speech Day, a tour perhaps. Let me know any views you might have. |

A blistering century from Ross Whiteley (his 100 came up in 60 balls) knocked the stuffing out of Bradfield Waifs, as the Pilgrims rattled up 284 in their 50 overs. There was concern that on a very fast outfield this might not be enough and perhaps the Pilgrims should have made over 300. But 4 wickets from Jack Lamb, a tidy spell of off-spin from the skipper and some good catching enabled the home side to bowl out Bradfield for 168. Pilgrims will now play the old enemy Malvern in the quarter finals to be played at Repton on Sunday 18th July. Please come and support.
