REPTON SCHOOL 1ST CLASS CRICKETERS

Some will have seen James Ross's comprehensive list of 1st class cricketers that have been at Repton. Few schools do better, probably only Eton and Harrow, but facts about Harrow seem a bit sketchy. Oundle for instance have never had an England player while Repton has had 10 and one South African Test player. Shrewsbury's only England player is James Taylor, formerly playing for Nottinghamshire. There are 156 now listed. James Ross has unearthed a list of players who turned out for a side called the Europeans and with the help of Cricket Archive the list continues to grow. Repton is 9th in the all time list of Public School 1st class cricketers (Eton have 723, but more than 300 of those had made their debuts by 1863!) and 2nd equal in the Test player list. Harrow equaled them when Gary Ballance got called up to play for England in the summer of 2014. Harry Moore at 16 made his debut for Derbyshire in 2023 against Worcestershire and became the 156th Reptonian to play professional cricket.
