We failed at the last hurdle against the very experienced Old Tonbridgians, who included Ed Smith in their side. Chris Paget won the toss and a solid start was given by Paul Borrington and Charlie Sindrey. Borrington was out stumped which bought Jon Batty to the crease a good stand followed between him and Sindrey and at 138 for 1 after 32 overs a big score looked possible. But then a flurry of wickets and 145-5 looked less promising. Jack Lamb and Charlie Wall batted sensibly and the final over went for 30. A total of 219-7 was 30 runs short but possibly defenable. Tonbridge knew that they did not need to take risks and despite a good allround bowling performance which would have won many games, they reached our total for the loss of three wickets with two overs to spare. It has been an excellent campaign well marshalled by Chris Paget. This is generally a very young side, who will have learned a lot about the competition and will return next year determined to go one better. We have had excellent support through the summer from both parents and Pilgrims and there was a very stong Repton turnout at the final. We have been drawn away to Winchester in the first round in 2010 and if successful, we will be at home for all the other rounds. The competition is trying not to clash with the National Knockout and so until the ECB announce their dates the dates for The Cricketer Cup remain unknown. |

The Pilgrims reached the final of the Cricketer Cup with an easy victory against the Eton Ramblers. Repton batted first after skipper Chris Padget won the toss. Despite the early loss of Borrington and Harvey, Sindry (54) and Paget (37) rebuilt the innings. 200 was always going to be hard to chase and good work from Wall (24) and Lamb (41) ensured that we got there. In reply Eton lost quick wickets and were always behind. All the bowlers did their job and two high quality stumpings from Poynton help to contribute to the demise of the Ramblers who were finally dismissed for 135. The final is on Sunday 16 August at Richmond CC, right next door to Kew Gardens. All welcome. The game starts at 10.45 |

Uppingham Rovers defeated in the Quarters |
|
The Pilgrims will take on Eton Ramblers in the Semi-final of The Crickter Cup after another strong showing at Uppingham in the 3rd round. Chris Paget won the toss and despite the early loss of Sindry, caught down the leg side and the skipper brilliantly caught at gully Paul Borrington (110) and Alex Mace (64) enabled the Pilgrims to post 265. But would it be enough. The Uppingham ground is very large and difficult to defend and some good running between the wickets ensure that the Rovers were always in the hunt. But a flurry of wickets, Bridgeman and Lamb taking good catches in the deep, put the pressure back on the home side. In they end they were all out for 221 in the 48th over. Full results here
